LEADERSHIP FOR EDUCATION!
The education of our young people is one of the most important responsibilities
of government and our community. The County enhances the State Department
of Education curriculum with a variety of programs and activities offered
by the Police Department, Prosecutor's Office, Department of Parks and Recreation
and Department of Research and Development. These include drug, alcohol,
tobacco and anti-bullying awareness, Summer Fun and athletics. As your Mayor,
I will work with schools and parents to increase educational opportunities
for our youth.
As your State Senator, I fought for and supported:
- The establishment of Waimea Middle School
- New gymnasium/emergency shelter at Hilo High School
- Softball field at Kealakehe High School
- Track and Field facility at Waiakea High School
- Softball field at Waiakea High School
- New Keaau Public Library
- Pahoa High and Intermediate School Gymnasium
- Konawaena High School Classroom Renovation
- Keaukaha Elementary School Classroom Renovation
- DeSilva Elementary School Classroom Renovation
- Renovations at Ka'u High and Pahala Elementary School
- Establishment of Charter Schools
- Millions of dollars to maintain and upgrade schools throughout our island
I have supported many more initiatives for our schools. These are only a
few of the recent highlights.
