Our people deserve professional and reliable health care services at affordable
prices. As Mayor, I will work with the medical community, educators, businesses
and non-profit health care providers to create an environment that encourages
the best physicians and nurses to live and work on the Big Island.
As your State Senator, I fought for and supported:
- A three-year pilot program to provide basic health insurance to uninsured children
- Funding for improvements to Hilo Medical Center, Kona Community Hospital, Ka'u Hospital, Hamakua Health Center, Hospice of Hilo and the Hawaii Health Systems Corp.
- Health care reform measures to improve health services for our people
- Construction of a new Bay Clinic, Inc. medical facility
- The University of Hawai'i at Hilo Nursing and Paramedic programs
- Visa waivers for nurses from the Philippines
- The University of Hawai'i at Hilo College of Pharmacy
- Construction of a long-term veterans care home
- Development of the University of Hawai'i Medical School
- Hale Hoola Hamakua long-term care facility
- Hawai'i RX Plus to make prescription drugs more affordable and accessible
- Naturopathy to allow people to seek alternative health care treatments
