LEADERSHIP FOR JOBS-ECONOMY!
As your Mayor, I will be an advocate for our local businesses and working people. I am committed to cutting red-tape and streamlining the permitting process to make it easier to build homes and do business. I will encourage investment in high technology, diversified agriculture, renewable, clean energy projects and Community Development Plans.
As your State Senator, I fought for and supported:
- Funding of $327 million in capitol improvement projects for the Big Island in 2007 that will stimulate our economy and provide jobs
- Major improvements to Hilo and Kawaihae harbors
- An $800,000 appropriate for Pohoiki Boat Ramp and Loading Dock
- A $20 million investment for a Cargo Building and Ramp at Hilo International Airport
- Nearly $15 million for terminal expansion and improvements a Kona International Airport at Keahole
- Tax credits for low-to-middle income earners from State General Fund surplus
- Tax Holiday-no general excise tax for a back-to-school shopping weekend
I have supported many more initiatives for jobs and our economy. These are only a few of the recent highlights.
