LORRAINE ON THE MOVE!
RELAY FOR LIFE--The Friends of Lorraine Inouye For Mayor rallied at Francis Wong Stadium in Hilo July 19-20 to help raise money for the fight against cancer. The great team of some 30 friends and supporters was led by co-captains Linda Silva, Donna Makekau, Patricia Kamanu and Patricia Windlow. Our team partnered with local businesses to sell Hawai'i products and has now exceeded its goal and raised $2,725 with more donations coming in. This effort is part of Sen. Inouye's continuing commitment to support non-profit organizations that are dedicated to improving the health and welfare of our people.
JOIN THE PARADE
The Friends of Lorraine Inouye For Mayor rallied around the island in celebration of Independence Day and the birth of our nation.
We were very much a part of the celebration in the wonderful town of Na'alehu on June 28, joining in the parade and passing out candy, pinwheels and small American flags attached to pencils.
Our booth at the fairgrounds was a big hit and attracted lots of people, who enjoyed our pineapple shave ice and our bright yellow recycle bags. By the end of the event, our recycle bags could be seen throughout the fairgrounds. Thanks to Charmaine Kamaka for coming up with the great shave ice idea, and MAHALO to all of the volunteers for walking in the parade and assisting at the booth.
On July 4, we were off to Volcano Village for one of the most unique parades on the Island of Hawai'i. Again, we passed out candy, recycle bags and pencils with American flags. It was a beautiful morning, and our candidate for Mayor, Lorraine Inouye, graciously greeted hundreds of parade watchers.
Lorraine also spent some time meeting and greeting people at Cooper Center where craft, information and food booths were set up. She was warmly welcomed by the Volcano community.
Then it was on to Kailua-Kona for a huge parade from the new Kona Gym, along Ali'i Drive to the Coconut Grove Shopping Center. We were joined by our friends from West Hawai'i and Ocean View and a small Miata auto that was covered with our bumper stickers--Stuck In Traffic--Want Change--Vote For Lorraine Inouye--Our unique theme was "Independence From Traffic Jams," which was greeted with applause from West Hawai'i residents, who have been frustrated for years by increasing traffic congestion.
Lorraine and our dedicated volunteers reached out to hundreds of people along the route. We again passed out candy and American flag pencils and personally touched many people. Lorraine made a special effort to walk along the street from side to side, speaking to military personnel, veterans and people in wheelchairs.
Again, a big MAHALO to all of the volunteers for your enthusiasm, cooperation and aloha.
On July 5, Lorraine continued the campaign effort by walking through the Waimea Farmers Market, meeting lots of friendly people and giving away our recycle bags. After visiting several of the food, produce and craft booths, our yellow bags were being carried by a whole lot of people in the market.
Thank You! Thank You!

Lorraine Listens To West Hawai'i
Responds With Fast Action, Courage
State Sen. Lorraine Inouye, our candidate for Mayor, moved quickly to help
kill a legislative bill that many people considered politically motivated
and a "vendetta bill" against Kona physician and State Rep. Josh
Green, who represents North Kona, Kailua-Kona and Keauhou.
After the State House approved the measure, Sen. Inouye wrote a strongly
worded letter to Senate Judiciary Chair Brian Taniguchi, asking him not
to set hearings on the measure.
Praising Sen. Inouye, State Rep. Green said, "I respect her for standing
up when she sees an injustice being done."
